The collection of used clothing generates substantial income for charitable organisations throughout Western Europe. In Germany alone, hundreds of thousands of tonnes of textiles are collected every year.

The next stage is carried out by specialist companies such as LEATEX, where the collected textiles are professionally sorted, processed and prepared for international markets. Although we live in an age of automation and advanced technology, textile grading remains an entirely manual process. Experienced sorters identify fabric composition by touch and classify garments into more than 150 product groups.

The sorting process ensures that approximately 87% of all incoming textiles can be reused. Most of the remaining 13% is recovered for energy generation, leaving only a minimal amount that cannot be utilised. LEATEX offers five quality grades across more than 100 product categories. Products are packed in 5 kg, 10 kg and 25 kg plastic bags, and we also manufacture industrial wiping cloths.
